Dinky is one of the most famous diecast brands in the world, and with the acquisition of the brand by Matchbox in 1987 it is once again available.
The ”Dinky Collection” was a new range added in 1988 after the acquisition was completed. Originally the range was a collection of vehicles from the 1950s and 1960s all in a 1/43 scale and the range complimented the ”Models of Yesteryear” range which focused more on models from before this period.
Eventually the branding seems to have been dropped after the takeover of Matchbox by Tyco and some of the castings were then released as ‘Models of Yesteryear’ before that range was discontinued as well under the ownership of Mattel
The branding has on occasion appeared as nothing more than a printed logo on the base of certain miniature vehicles but this is only done so that Mattel can retain the rights to the name and branding.
The entire range only existed for a short time and thus there is only 36 models in the collection.
