Hot August Nights
From 1997 there was a series of premiere editions released under the title of Hot August Nights, each model was limited to just 11,000 copies in 1997 and 12,000 copies in 1998 , 1999 & 2000.
These models were released in conjunction with the Hot Rod show of the same name held in Reno, Nevada. From 2001 the models were made by the Johnny Lightning brand.

A new series of 12 vehicles released in 2020 exclusively for Target in the USA. Each vehicle in the range was reminiscent of the early days of Matchbox and some even have tampo designs harking back to those very same days.
There was also a matching playset with a ”Matchbox Originals” vehicle included.
