This casting is possibly one of the widest used and longest serving castings in the entire Matchbox range, starting life as a Lesney casting in 1977 and still in use over 40 years later.
The casting is used not only as a dump truck but also in other guises such as the MB840 : Water Hauler or the MB140 : Faun Mobile Crane

There are two distinct ranges this year; the USA range and the ROW (Rest of the World) range. 2002 did however have something special, the first 10,000 models of each casting contained the 50th Anniversary logo somewhere on the model, the problem nobody seem to pick up on was that the 50th Anniversary wouldn’t be until 2003; in later years it would become known that Mattel did this on purpose so that the Matchbox Anniversary would not clash with the 35th Anniversary of their other brand ”Hot Wheels”
